The pain that shapes you

portraiture

ENIS is an avant-garde R&B artist who has overcome the many challenges including rejection, abuse and isolation for being gay in a Kurdish family.

He moved to California from Copenhagen at 16, but returned a year later and lost everything. His formative years were plagued with feelings of abandonment, suicidal thoughts, and even conversation therapy (!!). In the persuit of his passion for singing and storytelling, he got sick of being betrayed by the music industry. He is now rising as a talented independent artist who creates expressive music that reflects his experiences.

“When you walk through crowded streets with your eyes full of tears, you notice no one really sees you. Then you cook for yourself and the food tastes extra salty from the tears trailing down your cheeks, as the empty chairs around you remind you that you’re on your own now.”

I met up with Enis at his hotel in Berlin where we hung out and spontaneously created these images featured in Dazed & Confused, Numero Netherlands, Behind The Blinds, Metal Magazine and more.
