Marais is a multi-award-winning visual artist working primarily in photography with a focus on diversity and cultural projects, located between Paris and Amsterdam. A fan of digital photography and so-called "shit-cams," there’s no reliance on AI or even Photoshop. Also a writer, creator @heavyferal zine, wanderer, experimental filmmaker, web designer, thrill-seeker and adventure finder. Represented by DILLER Global
Ongoing series depicting men together, celebrating friendship, connection, and the freedom of the body. It embraces nudity, physicality and togetherness in a masculine context as something natural, easy, and positive.

SVENTHING
[Heavy] Feral Magazine, Vol. 1(Pages 16-31)
A performance art documentation and photo essay challenging the boundaries of identity, shame, and public space. This project was a direct collaboration with London-based performance artist Sven Ironside. The concept, born from a series of chaotic text messages, was to create a "living installation" on the streets of Berlin. We used red body paint and pre-cooked spaghetti as materials to transform Sven into the character "SVENTHING." The performance was documented in two iconic Berlin locations: a public square in Schöneberg and the gay nudist section of the Tiergarten to explore the tension between artistic expression and societal norms.

Hole On Main
Heavy Feral Vol. 1
"Hole on main" refers to people who openly post photo and video content of their privates (specifically their hole) on their main, public-facing social media accounts. The trend started gaining traction in the mid-to-late 2010s, particularly among gay men, as social media platforms like X and Instagram became more central to online identities. This also aligns with the rise of online exhibitionism and oversharing. While explicit content has long existed in niche spaces, posting such content directly on mainstream platforms, without anonymity, has become more common among individuals with less conventional views on privacy and shame.

The story behind the award-winning campaign featuring Bill Kaulitz
Project Overview: A photographic campaign for "Rainbow Wool," an initiative by the agency Serviceplan for the German sheep farm Schäferei Stücke. The campaign's objective was to create a new revenue stream for the farm and make a statement about inclusivity and LGBTQ+ rights. As lead photographer, my role was to capture all key subjects: the farmers, the celebrity ambassador, and the (fornicating) sheep to tell a cohesive and powerful story for a multi-platform launch.
Agency: Serviceplan Innovation

For Feral Magazine (aka Heavy Feral), I managed the entire lifecycle of its first issue, from initial concept to final distribution. My roles included creative director, photographer, designer, writer, and publisher. The objective was to create a tangible print artefact for a niche queer audience in a post-pandemic, digital-first world.

Nino: Trans Joy!
[Heavy] Feral Magazine, Vol. 1 (Pages 52-65)
Cape Town, 2024
A raw, documentary-style interview and photo essay detailing the life of a black trans man in South Africa.
The interview with Nino covers his entire journey: being kicked out of his home, experiencing homelessness, working on the docks, navigating the healthcare system for his transition, and becoming an accidental social media activist. The photography is direct and honest, capturing his strength and joy without glossing over the hardships. The narrative deliberately focuses on his perspective on sex, identity, and survival.

Project Overview: I was commissioned to photograph the launch campaign for ‘Constellations,’ a new feature for the progressive dating app Feeld. Feeld is a platform designed for open-minded individuals to explore dating and relationships beyond traditional norms. The ‘Constellations’ feature is a direct reflection of this ethos, allowing users to link their profile with up to five partners, creating a transparent and honest representation of their relationship network. My role was to create a series of still images that could capture the spirit of these multi-person connections for the campaign's launch.

West is a British actor best known for his roles in The Wire, The Affair, and The Crown. I got the chance to shoot with him for Jameson Irish Whiskey.

Photo/video project celebrating diverse masculinity and making it accessible to everyone, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. The cast of eight wear matching "pornstaches," flipping the idea of masculinity as "toxic" into something lighthearted and fun. It also encourages touch and connection, breaking down taboos around physicality between friends and strangers, no matter their gender or orientation.

Tech Bro, Legs Akimbo
[Heavy] Feral Magazine, Vol. 1 (Pages 98 - 109)
Portrait of a modern digital nomad who embodies a lifestyle of perpetual motion. Orel's story explores themes of bisexuality, body image, and the pursuit of new experiences. The photo shoot was designed to capture his adventurous spirit and comfort in his own skin, particularly his signature "legs akimbo" pose. The story is a snapshot of a life lived through the lens of social media and global exploration.

UGG hired me to shoot their 2024 Pride campaign, "Feel Seen Feel Heard." The campaign featured LGBTQ+ talent from Germany, France, and the UK, including drag artist Hungry, pop performer Lynks, and collectives like The Divine and Body Language.

Roman Hanák: Sausage Fest Sceptic
[Heavy] Feral Magazine, Vol. 1 (Pages 124-133)
A raw and provocative portrait of a Czech man who is unapologetic about his sexuality and critical of Berlin's "fake" queer scene. Roman, a self-proclaimed "Cheap Bitch," provides a candid and often humorous perspective on sex, desire, and what he considers "real men."
The photoshoot took place in a seedy Berlin hotel room.

Photo essay and candid interview exploring a queer relationship that isn’t defined by romance or sex. Patrick and Zachary, based in London, share a bond of play, intellectual connection, and physical closeness. The shoot was unscripted and lasted roughly four hours, allowing their natural connection to guide it. The accompanying text is a direct transcript of our conversation, thus preserving the authenticity of their voices and stories about family, identity, and cruising.

Marian Rey: Heavy Construction
[Heavy] Feral Magazine, Vol. 1 (Pages 78-85)
A minimalist photo essay featuring French model Marian Rey, who challenges sexual labels. Though he has appeared pin-up-style in gay publications, Rey identifies as straight. The creative choice was to keep him mostly clothed in suggestive underwear, denim and beachwear, shot on a construction site adjacent to a holiday village. This creates a sense of "heavy construction" whilst hinting at what lies beneath, playing with themes of masculinity and the male gaze.

"Blue on Blue" explores how the colour blue connects to touch and connection. Blue is rare in nature, and it feels universal. Like the sky or the ocean, not tied to any one feeling or gender. For the project, I asked two strangers to meet me at the beach and paint each other completely blue. This was the first time they had met. At first, they were awkward, but as they kept going, they started to trust each other.

In late 2022, I took an impulse trip to a small village in the Czech countryside to visit my friend, Roman Hanák. We had met two years prior at a gay resort in the South of France, a world away from his new life working as a tombstone engraver and helping his father with construction jobs. Over four days of shooting and talking, a story unfolded that was more complex and resonant than I could have imagined. This project became a deeply personal depiction of rural queer life in Central Europe.
Publication: BUTT Magazine, Issue #32
Project Title: Roman Does Everything
Location: Uherský Ostroh, Czech Republic
Year: 2023
Featuring: Roman Hanák
Full Interview: BUTT Magazine

Photo/video project celebrating diverse masculinity and making it accessible to everyone, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. The cast of eight wear matching "pornstaches," flipping the idea of masculinity as "toxic" into something lighthearted and fun. It also encourages touch and connection, breaking down taboos around physicality between friends and strangers, no matter their gender or orientation.
Model Kayla Crous channels '80s power glamour in this satirical web-2.0.exe take on glitches in corporate culture. Sharp lighting, layered shadows and a custom pixelisation effect explore the performance of business where facades are built, roles are adopted, and authenticity is questioned.
Fashion: Peter Georgiades using Thierry Mugler, YSL, Falke, Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Steve Madden, Laurèl, Le Streghe, Versace, Christian Louboutin and Alain Mikli

Photo/film editorial and candid conversation with Polish best friends Weronika and Olga for Heavy Feral Magazine, Vol. 1 (Pages 66-77). It explores their 17-year platonic yet physically intimate relationship. The goal was to challenge traditional ideas of relationships. Weronika and Olga, who grew up together and now share a bed in Berlin, share a unique story of friendship that includes shared sexual experiences. Weronika styled the shoot to match their vibrant, '90s techno-inspired aesthetic. The interview is a natural conversation about their history, dating lives, and deep connection.

John Henry: Peekaboo
[Heavy] Feral Magazine, Vol. 1 (Pages 42-51)
A character study of a young, queer fashion student navigating love, body image, and exhibitionism. John Henry, a 21-year-old fashion student, presented a compelling duality: a confident, sensual exterior and a thoughtful, vulnerable interior. The interview and photoshoot were designed to explore this tension, covering his experiences with rehab, polyamory, and public perception. The shoot took place in and around his home and at a local park, reflecting both his private and public personas.

Tour Ends Here
[Heavy] Feral Magazine, Vol. 1 (Pages 168-175)
A portrait showing the confident and welcoming spirit of a Cape Town local. Rico, a self-proclaimed "welcome wagon" for visitors to Cape Town, embodies an open and uninhibited energy. This was his first time being photographed nude, but his comfort in front of the camera made for an engaging series of images. The feature is presented without an interview, serving as a final, purely visual story that closes the Heavy Feral's magazine's global tour for it's first edition.
